My Work Area and a Book Launch!

Anita Laydon Miller declared today to be "Post a Photo of Your Work Area Day," and I do what Anita tells me so here it is! If you watched my vlog last week, you saw me in action in my work area, the family room couch. There's my laptop, my thesaurus, my rhyming dictionary, my refreshing beverage, my notebook and my pup, Daisy. When I'm writing, she likes to curl up next to me with my other dog, the Goof. I'm slightly embarrassed to showcase my beat up furniture. Last year my hubby told me we needed new coffee table set, I told him that ours just looks weathered and has character. Now that I look at this picture, I realize that ten years of beat downs from my three kids have taken its toll...he was right! Do you see my Coca Cola glass? I got this at Steak n Shake with a $15 purchase last week. I'm way more excited than I should be. I have said, "I love my new glass!" ten times in the last two days.
Another reason I was excited this weekend was that I was able to go to an author launch party!
Here is Tina P. Schwartz with her newest book, Writing and Publishing, by Scarecrow Press.

When I started attending local SCBWI meetings four years ago, Tina was co-director of our chapter. I have to say I was a bit nervous at first at meetings, as I was so new and naive about the writing business. She was always so supportive and friendly. I ended up taking an online writing course with her (which she still offers), and she walked me through many different aspects of writing for children. In this class, I completed my first picture book rough draft and wrote a short story that ended up in Stories for Children magazine last year (among other assignments).

Writing and Publishing: The Ultimate Teen Guide is Tina's third book (her other titles: Organ Transplants: A Survival Guide for the Whole Family and Motocross Freestyle). Here is Tina and the illustrator, Conrad Locander, also known as Professor Whimsy at our chapter meetings, before Tina was interviewed by a radio station.

I enjoyed being able to congratulate Tina on her big day, and I also got to visit with Lori Degman, who won the Cheerios New Author contest last year. Her rhyming picture book, 1 Zany Zoo, will be in Cheerios boxes in March and the hardcover will be released in July!
Congrats to Tina, Conrad, and Lori!

Nice, cozy work area. If my work area looked that inviting, I'd post mine too. :)

Ooooooo, comfy couch, warm dog, cool drink....

My work area is packed with books, post-it notes, paper. Not a total mess, but not tidy either.

It was really great seeing you Saturday! I hope you can make it to a monthly meeting soon.

Your writing area looks great - "cozy" as Laura said.

Do you mind if I use your picture of Tina to put on my blog and website? I've been trying to take more pictures and forgot - again!

Post yours anyway, Laura! :)
Bish- I do have a desk in the family room, but it's a mess and I took the chair away because it's so covered I'd never be able to use it! Plus the couch is comfier...

Great seeing you too, Lori! Yes, you can most definitely use the pics on here. Do you want me to email them to you or you can just download them from the blog?

Now I want to know how often you sit there to work. Like are you sitting there right now? Working? Because I'm a little envious. And inspired.

Looks like a nice place to settle in and write! Thanks for the book launch info, too. :-)

Wow! A workspace complete with a dog! How perfect is that!

I don't have one place that I work. I wander with my laptop. Sounds like you have an active SCBWI group!

Anita- I will be, too! (Lori's the author of that one btw)
Jonathon- Huh? Because I eat at Steak n Shake? ;)
Tina- I have a sporadic writing schedule right now. That space is used for so many things, I snuggle with my kids there, watched the Grammy's there last night, and write when I can! I do need to make a writing schedule so I get more done!
Shannon- It's a comfy writing spot!
Christy- The dog is the best part!
Sherrie- I do take my laptop to Starbucks occasionally, but most of the writing is done there. Our group is pretty active. Great people!

I love your work area! I need to take a picture of mine. I work at the table and right now I have two computers open so I can read blogs faster. I should be revising. Le sigh.

I love your work area...Daisy looks so comfy!

Thanks for sharing your photo and story about going to the author signing! I've been wanting to attend some of these locally and haven't gotten around to it! They always look so fun!

Happy Monday!

Kelly, Your work area looks really comfy! You should see the incredible mess I work in. Hm, maybe I should take a picture for my post tomorrow? Stay tuned... ;o)

Yeah, what is it about Anita that we do her bidding? :)

I like your workspace. It's so much softer than a crummy old desk. Sounds like you had a great time at the book event. It must feel great to be involved in-person with other writers.

Ahhh, what a cozy area, Kelly! I love it! Mine is not fit for blog viewing . . . it's such a mess! Must work onthat this year . . . :)

I love your work space, Kelly! And book launches are a blast, aren't they?

That does it...You've made the comfy chair look like the best work area...

So, I'm moving out of my writing/craft room and turning that comfy chair in my living room into my office...grin...

And when Hubs asks why...I'm going to say, "Kelly made me do it!" grin...

Kelly--Nice workspace...I didn't realize it was national post your workspace day...I didn't post today. I thought I would give my Sunday post an extra day...kind of a deep topic.
