Grammy Wrap Up

I almost didn't watch the Grammy's last night. I just don't love any of the artists nominated, and there's not enough rock 'n' roll in the show anymore. But I figured "What the hey" and watched it anyway for the love of music.

Click here for a complete list of the winners (who do I look like, Lisa Rinna? Okay, besides the lips...)

RANDOM THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING THE GRAMMYS

1. Nice Aretha (my hubby calls her Urethra, sorry Miss Franklin) tribute with an eclectic group of talented ladies. I hope Christina remembers the words... (I know, I know. She has one amazing voice!)

2. I just realized that this Aretha tribute was 12 minutes long. Whoa.

3. "Yeah!" yelled my 8 yr old daughter when Train won for Best Pop Duo or Group Performance for "Hey, Soul Sister," her fave song.

4. I need to get myself a pair of silver pants (like Ricky).

5. I think Lady Gaga "Hatched This Way."

6. I hope the Volturi don't take notice of the blatant vampire sparkles of Muse!

7. Awww, cute pep talk from Usher to the Biebs.

8. They found someone shorter than Bieber to sing with him! And speaking of Jaden Smith, I gotta wonder why Will and Jada let their kids enter the entertainment industry so young...

9. Best Rock Album nominees are a bunch of old guys (except for Muse). What about newer rock bands? They are good, too! Muse did win and frontman mentioned his "Beautiful, pregnant girlfriend" (Kate Hudson) then cackled nervously.

10. Lady Gaga has got herself some round, protruding leather boobies and bootay!

11. Lead singer of Mumford & Sons looks like a cross between Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and Mario Lopez.

12. They bring muppets in for the F - U song?!

13. Did anyone else catch Katy Perry on one of my favorite shows last week? She was on How I Met Your Mother!

14. Who wants to bet that John Mayer hit on Norah Jones after the awards show? (Norah's hair looks adorable btw)

15. I think Shy Ronnie should have joined Eminem and Rihanna on stage. (Cool dress for Love the Way You Lie, and it's a cool song.)

16. In Memoriam left out the Rev of platinum selling rock band, Avenged Sevenfold, last year and left out Slipnot bassist, Paul Gray, this year. Slipknot even won a Grammy in 2006 for "Before I Forget!" Ticks me off that they left them out and didn't honor them.

16. Tik Tok! This guy looks like Mick Jagger. Oh, it is!

17. Did the audience give a standing ovation for Barbra because they didn't have to pay the usual $1000 like the attendees at her regular concerts? I know, she's a music legend!

18. Did they not show all the awards? Did I miss Them Crooked Vultures win Best Rock Performance? Speaking of awards, is it just me, or was it twenty minutes between each award?!

Best Dressed

Ladies: Selena Gomez in a beautiful metallic dress and Margaret Cho had a simple, but beautiful gray gown.

Men: This guy looked cute, especially the metallic nails.

Best Tweet about the Grammy Awards by @Lord Voldemort7 (yes, I follow the Dark Lord. He's actually quite funny). I also follow Darth Vader. Srsly.

"#grammyforbieber is trending. I'm concerned. Is this about the music award or has his fan base moved from tweens to the elderly"

Anyone else watch?

And by the way, I heart you for stopping by my blog today! Happy Valentine's Day! I hope your day is filled with hugs and chocolate!

One question: What's a Bieber? hahahaha!

I watched part of it. Up to Mick strutting. Loved Dylan with that group of young acoustic players, they must have been exstatic to get to back him up. I agree about there not being enough real rock and roll or blues. It seems to be more about sales than about music. I was surprised Jeff Beck had been nominated for something, I'll have to look up the album. What a guitarist.

I had the same thought about the muppets!

And you are srsly making me consider getting twitter if I could follow Lord Voldemort and Darth Vader.

Will and Jada are the most horrible example of nepotism in Hollywood. I've never liked them, but with the way they are pushing their talentless kids into the showbiz I now can't stand them :(

Hope you're having a nice Valentines, Kells :)

Yes, the intervals between awards were sooooooooo long. No wonder their ratings are in the dumps. I checked in just in time to see Eminem win best Rap Album, which he deserved. I loved the Detroit shout-out.

And when my beloved Arcade Fire performed, then won, then performed AGAIN, I was beside myself.

Kanye West will be the big winner next year, Gaga won't be nominated for many things.

Sam- Hee!
Bish - Yes, I agree about it being a lot about popularity instead of true talent now.
Shelley - Follow them you must.
Dezz- I have to agree. Though I do like Will and Jada, I can't believe how they push their kids into the spotlight. Haven't they seen what early fame can do?! (Lindsay Lohan? Gary Coleman? Corey Feldman?)
Jon- You are bold making predictions for next year already!

I TRIED to watch. Coming from a girl who, ya know, use to do the whole music thing, I hate the Grammy's anymore. It's never anyone, I think, should be there.

You're the second person to post random thoughts about the Grammys, which is far better than the actual show I'm sure.

Shannon O'Donnell said...

Um, could you say that again in English? I don't speak this music language. LOL.

Adrienne said...

We thought the same thing about the Muppets.
Today's Sesame Street show brought to you by the letters F and U, and the number 2...

LOL I have sick kids so I missed the whole thing!!! How fun is your list - thanks for sharing and Happy Valentines Day!!!!

Lydia K said...

I didn't watch but I KNEW you'd post about this just for my benefit, ha ha!
I agree with Margaret Cho's dress. Her tats were all the jewelry she needed.

Lola Sharp said...

The shoulder horns and egg hatching Gaga bit (or was it Madonna?), was over the top.

Loved Mumford and Sons.

Ricky's silver ultra skinny pants were an embarrassing disaster. o.0

I stopped watching (and tivo'd the rest) to switch over and watch Masterpiece...which was excellent. And watched the rest of the grammys after masterpiece theater. (which meant I didn't have to watch the commercials)

Happy Valentine's Day, Kelly! *hugs* :)

I was watching The Black Swan and totally forgot about the Grammys so thanks for the summary :)

Kelly said...

Candace - I hear you. Not enough rock at the Grammys.
Alex - Some of it was entertaining, and I am glad I can FF through the boring parts! Which wrap up was better? :)
Oh, Shannon! :)
Adrienne - LOL! I wish I would have thought to write that in my wrap up!
Lindsay - Sorry about your sick kiddos. Enjoy your Vday!
Lydia - Very true. She doesn't need any jewelry with all those tattoos!
Lola - Yes, Lady Gaga is getting way over the top. And don't you love it when you can FF through shows?! Hugs to you!
Kim - I want to see that movie!!

Lovely Grammy wrap up, Kelly. I think you should write a column you do this so well.

I missed it, but I really want to see a picture of Lady Gaga's egg costume. Unfortunately, I also missed the post award entertainment shows today, too. :P

I didn't watch them but caught the highlights afterwards. I think Lady Gaga got that hair on her entry into Earth's atmosphere LOL! Glad to see Nikki Sixx is still alive.

I was embarrassed for the grammy originators. The entire production was heinous. There were maybe 3 people I liked. And not many more I even knew. The most talented person there was eminem - whom I can't stand, but he *is* extremely talented.

Gaga is the biggest wannabe since...ever. She tries far too hard, and it shows.

Who the heck told Ricky those pants looked good?

One of my favorite dresses was slayed by the fashion critics (Natasha Bedingfield). Selena and Julianna Hough were two others I loved. I thought Kelly Osbourne's dress was adorable!

I agree - Nikki Sixx looked good. For someone who lived the life he did (and almost died a gazillion times), he looks pretty good for his age, lol.

Okay, now that I've ranted my way through your post...I hope you had a nice Valentine's Day ;)

I tuned in for Muse's sparkles :D and I love @Lord Voldemort7 's tweets--funny!

Love your random thoughts. I didn't watch the Grammy's. :( HOpe you had a great Valentines day!

Jill Kemerer said...

I usually skip the Grammy's, but we watched most of them this year. Oh Christina A., why, why does she warble and push her voice to ridiculous places? I grit my teeth every time she sings. Every time. The
rest was good, though!
(Shy Ronnie should have been up there. Absolutely!)

I missed the whole thing! A friend came over last minute, and I completely forgot. When I hung out with a bunch of 8th-graders the next morning, it was all they were talking about.

Susan Fields said...

Hooray for Train - I love that song too!

I didn't watch the Grammy's - it's actually pretty amazing I even knew it was on. I'm so behind the times!

Rena said...

Never watch it anymore. I wait for your blog. ;)

Jonathon Arntson said...

Rena's got a point: your recap is twice as entertaining than the actual show.

Well except the Mumford and Sons and Arcade Fire performances. Those were unmatched.

I missed the show, but love your wrap up!

My faves on your list? #5
And I have the same question as you about the Smith's kiddos in #8.

As usual, you rock. ;)
