Golden Globe Wrap Up

Yes, it's that time again. Time for actors and actors to get dressed up, have a few cocktails, and pat each other on the back. Ricky Gervais served as the wickedly sarcastic and funny host of the glamorous evening.

For a complete list of last night's winners, check here (who do I look like, Ryan Seacrest? C'mon! I'm about one foot taller than him)

And my usual
RANDOM THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING THE GLOBES

1. Was that a fake, angry smile from Johnny Depp after Ricky blasted The Tourist? But still a handsome, angry smile.

2. Not loving Scarlett Johannsen's odd hairdo...nor Christian Bale's long, shaggy do.

3. Katey Sagal so does not look like Peg Bundy anymore! (but Ed O'Neill kinda still looks like Al...still love him on Modern Family though!)

4. So sweet that Lea Michele is weeping for joy for Glee winner Chris Colfer.

5. Michelle Pfeiffer is a timeless beauty.

6. Whoops! Pretty dress, Eva, but looks hard to walk in.

7. Steve Buscemi is a darn good actor, but man he's kinda creeeeeepy.

8. Toy Story 3 FTW!

9. Who else thinks that Emma Stone is adorable? And she looks cute as a blonde or brunette.

10. Who's the cowgirl who won't let go of Claire Danes? And while I'm talking about Danes, Claire gets on my nerves.

11. Okay, now I feel bad. The cowgirl is amazing autistic scientist, Temple Grandin, who HBO created a movie about. Hey! I didn't know!

12. Steve Carell always cracks me up. So does Tina Fey who said when presenting awards to writers, "Screenplays we would have written...if we had the time."

13. I love that Sofia Vergara clapped excitedly when her name was called as a nominee for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy (for Modern Family, one of my fave shows!).

14. Love Vanessa William's earrings!

15. Awwww, Natalie Portman's sporting a baby bump...and a Bump-It in her hair?
And my 11 year old son says, "Glad someone from Star Wars won!" I told him that she was pregnant with Luke and Leia.

16. Michael Douglas looks great after his battle with cancer. He quipped,"There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing ovation."

BEST DRESSED
Olivia Wilde looked absolutely stunning in her sparkly dress. She makes me want to try wearing my hair in bangs yet again.
I also liked Susanne Bier's, director of Best Foreign Film, simple, yet lovely white dress. Her necklace was just the right accessory, too.

And winners of showing their Golden Globes at the Golden Globes: Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Love Hewitt and January Jones.

Did anyone else watch the show? Whaddya think?

I'm probably doing a best dressed at Globes post later today :) Danes can be irritating sometimes, but not as irritating as Portman, and plus Danes has Hugh Dancy for a husband and that's a big PLUS :)

I don't get into award shows. I'm not sure why. But I enjoyed reading your perspective of it. :0)

BTW, I nominated you for a blog award on my blog. :0D

Cool recap, K. I love Claire Danes though, so watch yoself.

I missed the show, but after your take on it, I may just tune in to it on the net... :) Thanks for the recap, Kelly!

I actually watched, which is odd since I'm not into award shows. I didn't think Ricky Gervais was funny at all, I thought he was quite rude. I loved how Robert Downey Jr. got back at him for his humilitaing introduction. And I noticed after that he (Ricky) toned down his venomous remarks.

Have been mad at Claire Danes ever since she stole Billy Crudup when he was with that pregnant actress...Mary someone.

I was really disappointed in some of Ricky's jokes. He crossed a line a few times. Not cool when he said that about being Ashton Kutcher's dad!

Loved Robert Downey Jr.'s introduction
Wanted to stab Angelina with a fork.
Brad looked like crap.
Sandra Bullock's bangs are too long.
And I guess I'll have to rent Glee to see what all the fuss is about.

You're funny. I didn't watch it:(

Kelly said...

Dezz- I think Hugh Dancy might be prettier than Claire!
Christy - Thanks for the award!
Jon - I have to politely disagree. :)
You are welcome, Hema!
Bish - He was mean at times, but overall I liked his sarcasm.
Steph - The Billy Crudup thing is how I started not to like Claire! Totally!
Candace- Well, you didn't miss much. The entertainment shows and I always have the recaps! My fave part is seeing the dresses!

Love your round-up! I don't know half the people you mentioned (sad, I know - and actually I thought I was doing pretty good to know half!)

I thought Ricky was way over the line too many times - there's sarcastic - funny and there's so rude you gasp - not funny, if you know what I mean but I did enjoy the show.

I wish they would have zoomed in on Keith with Nicole a few more times :*) but still interesting. Johnny Depp was an acceptable substitute.

Robert Downey Jr = sigh!!!

And I said the same thing to my kids...Look, there's a little Luke Skywalker in there!

You did a play-by-play like I did with Sharktopus! That's cool. I only caught a little of the show - watched an instant-watch movie on NetFlix instead.

Kelly said...

Kiki - That's right! You love Keith Urban! I didn't realize how much taller Nicole was til I saw last night's show. Though she was probably wearing heels.
Shelley - I hope Natalie's future husband won't turn to the dark side.
Alex - I only actually watch it for about 60-90 minutes. I DVR it and then fast forward through a lot of it!!

Christina Lee said...

heehee--love your commentary! Glad Christian Bale gained back his weight (so odd in that movie)and I agree about Steve B.- he needs some vitamin D but a great actor!

Matthew Rush said...

I didn't watch but I heard about it on the Radio this morning. Now I need to see The Social Network even more than I did before.

Christian James said...

totally agree with you Pheiffer is a timeless beauty, enjoyed your observations

Well, no surprise, I cried when Chris Colfer of Glee won his Golden Globe. And the cowgirl that was hugging Clare Daines is the real Temple Grandin. If I remember correctly, Temple has done pioneering work in the field of autism (and is autistic herself) and she is a real life cowgirl - in the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame!

Beth said...

I loved this summary. I didn't watch the show but now I wish I did. Love the comments about Luke and Leia!

Hey Kelly, here are my two cents:
1. Somtimes slimy, always cute.
2. How about Annette Bennings hair?
3. Her outfit was a bit Peg Bundy :-)
4. Agree
5. Agree - and it doesn't look like she's had work.
6. Didn't see her walking.
7. He needs a good orthodontist
8. ?
9. Yep
10. I like Claire - did you ever see My So Called Life? It was great. The woman was Temple Grandin - the autistic woman Claire protrayed that won her the award. That was also a great movie.
11. Oops, just read this.
12. I know - they should co-host one of the awards.
13. I know - she cracks me up! LOVE that show!
14. Didn't notice.
15. LOL
16. Class act!

I'm with Bish. I think Ricky Gervais crossed far over the line into mean-spiritedness. I kept wondering what Martin Sheen must feel every time some takes a cheap shot at Charlie's problems.

Kelly said...

Christina - He's almost unrecognizable in the movie!
Matthew - That's one I want to see, too!
Christian - She is a beauty! Thanks!
Denise - Of course you did! Yeah, and I googled her after the hug...
Thanks for stopping by, Beth!
Lori - Ha! Love your input!!
Anne - Ricky was definitely harsh at times.

You must get a column, Kelly. You covered the GG's better than the guys that get paid to do it.

Lydia K said...

Okay, your comment about Luke and Leia made me lose it.
You are too funny!

I didn't watch the show, but your post was STILL laugh out loud funny! When I need a pick me up laugh, I know what blog to go to!

Beth G. said...

I always think it's interesting to see who they go to for the reaction shots. Like when Annette Bening won for _The Kids Are All Right_, and they flashed over to Jane Lynch. Like they're thinking, "Hey, let's go to the lesbian!"

I only got to watch part of the broadcast before leaving for Book Club; I was sad to see I missed Jim Parsons.

Anita said...

I didn't watch because I knew you'd fill me in. Thanks!

Samantha Vérant said...

Kelly- You didn't mention the Hugh Heffner joke, the advice to Heff's newest bride to be! Don't look at it, Ricky said!

Katie Mills said...

OH fun! I missed this- living in france. We'll probably see it on one of those obsolete channels, dubbed over. Thanks for this though! Almost felt like I was there watching with you!

What fun! I don't usually watch award shows after the first ten minutes, but I love reading and hearing the summaries and overviews. So, thanks for this! It's great!

Nice wrap up! I watched the globes via twitter while writing. I know it's a fun show where the actors have a bit more freedom to be themselves. Maybe one of these years - or I"ll just count on you for the wrap up!

OMG, you take after your mom. You told your son she was carrying Luke and Leia??? Well, now that's just pure brilliance.

I didn't watch the Golden Globes, but I wouldn't mind going to it some year. Can I do that instead?

Jill Kemerer said...

Great breakdown! I only watched six minutes of it--and it was the six minutes of the cowgirl hugging Claire Danes! Ha!

Great blog--glad we connected on Twitter!

Elana Johnson said...

My SIL recorded it, but I didn't watch it. She said she likes to see their clothes and hairstyles, and well, I don't much care about that stuff.

But I liked your wrapup!

Didn't get to see it but nice to get the low down. Thanks! :-)

LOL @ "Their Golden Globes at the Golden Globes"! January Jones' dress was really hard to understand. Loved Olivia Wilde's dress too!

Oh, I liked Halle Berry's dress the most. Classic, clean lines, simple. Loved it. Wish I could carry off a dress like that.

Good recap!
