Fast forward to last week. These three girls took their first vacation together since spring break in high school (we sailed to the Virgin Islands our senior year). We added another high school friend to our vacation plans and a few more surprise family members. Two of us flew in from Illinois, one from Michigan, and one all the way from Spain.
We spent five nights in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We laughed. We giggled. One even giggled so hard she peed her pants. We cried a little. We danced a lot. We shopped. We enjoyed massages and facials. We sang karaoke. We ate together. And then we laughed some more. And forever this song will remind me of this trip.
We even reenacted the picture we took almost 30 years ago.

Here are a few pics from our vacation together.

Here are a few pics from our vacation together.

Aren't friends grand?
I took everyone's advice and left my computer at home, too! I did absolutely no writing and read Elana Johnson's Possession on the plane to and from Florida. Awesome book. Awesome trip. Awesome friends.
My friend Becky also posted a blog about our trip today. See her post HERE.
Please check out this week's posts at Book Recs of the Rock and Famous! I have my kids' favorite Disney channel actor and a rocker with an amazing voice this week!

I thought you were the one with the red sleeves in the first picture, and I see in the second picture that you're on that same side, so does that mean I'm right?
I'm so glad you had an awesome vacation, and that you've stayed friends over all these years. Getting together with old friends is the best!
awe, how fantastic is that!? Count yourself very very lucky. I only have one close friend from childhood who I keep in touch with but we live an ocean apart now a days.
So cool. Friendships like this are very rare.
Thanks for letting us share a piece of it!
Shelley
Childhood friends are precious and dear. They are like surrogate siblings. You have a history with them no one else does. A look can trigger a memory or bring on the giggles. I'm glad you have that.
What a wonderful post! I love the pictures and especially the joy. I'm so glad you had this chance to get away with old friends. I'm envious!
Hi, new follower here. This is so nice! I love how you recreated the childhood picture! :)
I don't know anyone from that far back that I would actually want to see. Well, maybe family.
But you guys are adorable!
Too fun, and totally awesome! That cruise I went on in June was w/a friend of mine that I've known since we were born. I say since before she was born b/c I'm 9 mos older. It was awesome.
great stuff~ <3
That is awesome! My bestie from high school went to the Incubus concert with me. I thought 22 years was a good friend run, but grade school, wow!
I love this so much, Kelly! What an amazing time this must've been. I moved around too much growing up to have such a long-term connection with friends as a kid, but I can imagine how beautiful your memories must be.
Either I'm PMSing or you have a way with words...actually cried for this post. And you look beautiful!
LOVE that y'all reenacted the photo. <3
I LOVE that you guys have all been close friends for SO LONG!
I'm so glad you guys had a fabulous time! :)
Like a few others above, I moved too much as a child to have any friends from that long ago (or even remember them). But, my BFF has been my BFF for 21 years.
Have a lovely weekend, Kelly!
Huggles,
Lola
So so cute! I'm glad you had a fun time!
How cool! But wait -- none of you are wearing cutoff Daisy Dukes in the newer photo :)
That was lovely, just lovely.
Susan - You are right!
Katie - I feel truly lucky we've shared our lives together.
Thank you, Shelley. They are gems!
Bish - So true. I do think of them as family.
Mel - Thank you. It was pure joy!
Shelley - Thanks for stopping by my blog! Welcome!
Thanks, Matthew. It's crazy how long we've known each other.
LTM - I bet a cruise would be fun with good friends too!!
Tara - Yay for Incubus and besties!
Carol - It's nuts that we have grade school, high school, college and adult memories together. We've been through a lot together.
That means a lot, Anita!
Lola - I think I met both of them when we were five years ago, but became good friends at 8 yrs old. It seems crazy that we've actually spent a lifetime together.
Thanks, Hannah!! :)
Sherrie - I had some there!!! Why didn't I think to wear them?! Darnit!
Thanks for coming by, Cynthia!
That's so awesome Kelly that you've stayed friends and that you took that trip together. Sounds like it was so much fun. I'll be near Fort Lauderdale toward the end of October for a few days visiting with my mom.
Oh that is so cool that you remained friends all this time. And what a neat idea to take the similar picture all these years later!
Love the pictures and the post!
This sounds so awesome! You have to love friends that have known you forever and can call your bluff on anything. BTW, gave you a little gift of fire today on my blog. Pass it on if you get a chance!
So glad you had a great time! I get to do that soon with my sister next weekend. I can't wait!
Oh my goodness-- I SOOOOOO love that you guys did this (And the picture--yesss)!!!!!
Love the hermit crab re-enactment ;)
Love the re-enactment of the 70's photo. Too cute.
How wonderful to have lifelong friendships! Your vacation trip sounds like a trip of a lifetime (I think different trips can be "trips of a lifetime" for different reasons). Love the pictures.
How lovely to spend time with the ladies! Love your dress in the last pic.
So glad you're back!!
Old friends are the best! A few years ago, six Jersey Girls I grew up with came to LA. It was the best staycation I've ever had. Times like those stay with you forever.
Cheers to you and your girls!
How cool you've known one another all this time and remained friends. While the friendships are still strong, the hair has thankfully changed. ; )
And with my unruly curls, all I wanted was feathered hair...
I'm glad you had such a wonderful trip.
Natalie - Enjoy Ft. Lauderdale in October. I really loved it!
Jennifer - I don't know whose idea it was, but I'm glad they had it!
Thanks for coming by, Jenny!
Julie - Thank you for the award!
Lydia - Enjoy the family time with your sis!
Christina - I wish I could rewind and do it all over again. What a fun (and special) week together.
Kim and Stina - The funny thing is one of my friends is NOT an animal lover, so she made a face in both pics!
Marcia - I do consider it a vacation of a lifetime. I hope we can do it again in a few years.
Missed P - Thank you! It was a bargain!
Thanks, Jon. Looking forward to getting back to SE soon.
Suz - I agree. I love how comfortable you can be with certain people.
Theresa - Yes! Thank goodness for different trending hairstyles! :)
Friends are the best! And the ones from childhood are extra special. I LOVE the back-when and now photos--so great! Glad you had such fun!
Friends are fabulous. How fun to have two that you still love to be with and can actually share time with.
How FUN! I LOVE the picture you reenacted! That is so cool. All the pictures look beautiful ... what a great time!
It looks like you girls had a great time!
So awesome! My "girls" and I are planning a European vacation when we hit the big 4-0, and always meet up once a year to have a girls weekend, recap on the college years, and just have fun!
These trips are the best...fun post!
