Random Thoughts About the VMA's

Last night was the Mtv Video Music Awards. Which shocks me every year as Mtv hardly airs many music videos anymore. And I LOVE music videos.

Here's my usual Random Thoughts While Watching the VMA's.

Click here for a complete list of winners (who do I look like, Riki Rachtman?).

1. Gaga totally reminds me of Ralph Macchio in the Outsiders. Do it for Johnny! (but lose the cigarette...)

2. The Biebs doesn't seem too thrilled in the audience...

3. Yay, Foo Fighters! They won best Rock Video for "Walk" which was based on the movie "Falling Down." Great tune. I heart Dave Grohl.

4. My fave quote of the night: "Never lose faith in real rock 'n' roll music." - Dave Grohl

5. Paul Rudd is all over the place lately. What a cutie. Slappin' da bass!

6. Whoa! Quick wardrobe change for Katy Perry! (which I should know from Jon Arntson's Katy Perry concert review.)

7. I just found out that my hubby is an Adele fan and has her CD in his truck. Who knew?!

8. Wow! Can't believe that Bieber beat out Eminem! The specs are kind of cute.

9. Surprised to see Chris Brown here. Doesn't anyone hold any grudges against woman beaters??? And how does Dave Grohl feel about Chris lipsyching to a Nirvana song??

10. Cute Britney montage!

11. Beyonce is an amazing performer as always. And if you haven't heard, she's preggers!

12. Is Jared Leto wearing a skirt? And a mini mullet? Take off those shades, Jared, and show us your baby blues!

13. And I wish Gaga would have done a wardrobe change. Enough with the Andrew Dice Clay/Macchio impression.

14. Hunger Games trailer! Man, I wish it was longer and showed more of the movie! Can't wait!

15. What the H does Katy have on her head??? And I love the "Firework" video. And song.

16. As always, not enough rock 'n' roll at this awards show.

Anyone else watch the VMA's? What did you think?

I've joined the Campaign! I feel all warrior-like saying that. I've seen the Campaign badge all over the blogs lately, so I decided to join forces with you all to build our platforms, support one another, meet new blog friends, and take over the blogging world!!! (cue maniacal laughter)

If you'd like to join forces with us, go to Racheal Harrie's blog and join in by August 31! Who's with me??

No Trivium or Avenged Sevenfold, just the same old MTV stuff.

Matthew MacNish said...

I'm so out of touch with new music. I suck.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Haven't watched the awards in years. At least a real rock band won a rock award.
I'm part of the Campaign as well.

Thanks for all the MTV updates! I started to watch it and then remembered I needed to keep reading a book I'm reviewing for a publisher. :)

I just joined the Crusades, too!! Looking forward to seeing you around. I'm finally back to blogging after taking most of the summer off to spend with my family and finish final edits on a requested manuscript! So good to be back!

Agree about the rock and roll(or lack thereof).

I loved how geeky the pre-show emcees were dressed.

Kind of like those Foster the People guys.

I haven't gotten to see the VMA's on air night in years but I'll often catch glimpses on youtube or when they do a quick recap dubbed over in french on one of the MTV channels. Loved your notes! Tell your hubs I think Adele rocks- love her recent album.

Laura Pauling said...

I didn't watch but I was following the tweets. The biggest tweets were about the disappointed HUnger Games trailer. :)

Marisa Hopkins said...

I was super stoked that Foster the People were nominated best new artist - because I hadn't heard of them before and I LOVE their sound.

the THG trailer only made me annoyed. They could have given us a better taste!!!

I'm starting to really like Lady Gaga. And I heart Dave Grohl, too. I always think of him when I see Mentos commercials.

MG Higgins said...

Where would I be without you filling me in on all the awards shows I don't watch! Welcome to the Campaign.

E.J. Wesley said...

Yay for the Foo! Great album. Your hubs has good taste in tunes, btw. Adele FTW

Bish Denham said...

I'm like Matt, haven't a clue what's going on with music. But then there's you and I get to hang out at the fringes.

Kelly said...

Tony - Seriously. Not enough rock on the show or channel. And Avenged Sevenfold videos are awesome!
Matthew - I'm out of touch with a lot, too as I only listen to rock. I didn't know some of the nominees!
Alex- True. Foo Fighters was one of the few rock bands in attendance.
Sheri- Welcome back!!
Shelley- I hadn't even heard of the Foster the People guys til last night!
Katie - Adele has a beautiful voice!
Laura & Marisa - Yes, the trailer was way too short. And no Peeta.
Julie - Ha! Mentos! Foo Fighters videos are so funny!
Mel- I forgot all about the awards til I turned on the tv minutes before they were on! Then I grabbed my notebook to make notes!
EJ- I LOVE Foo. And I had no idea that the hubs liked Adele, but yes, good music.
Bish - Glad I could be of service :).

I didn't watch, but I can imagine there were a million "And up next..." moments, which I hate.

I love Adele more than life...she is ease.

I think Eminem should've beat Bieber, just out of principle.

Joanna said...

Hi Kelly looking forward to connecting and campaigning with you :)

J.R. Williams said...

Hello fellow campaigner! Just dropping by to check out your blog. I didn't watch the entire show, but I did catch the clip of The Hunger Games and I also wanted to see more. Can't wait to check out the movie. I look forward to learning more about you throughout the campaign. :)

Thanks for stopping by, Joanna!

I didn't see the VMA's, but now I feel like I did. Thanks for the recap/thoughts.

And Campaign? I am woefully lost in the blogosphere these days. *sigh*

Kim Kasch said...

Love checking out Gaga's outfits. She's so gutsy. And, I can't wait for the Hunger Games...!

LynNerd said...

Hi Kelly. Thanks for the follow! My daughter just had a baby boy, so I'm rushing to get ready to go help out. She had a c-section. Looking forward to following you, too.

Cortney said...

Kelly, just wanted to drop in and say hi! I'm in your multi-genre Campaign group, and so far I love your blog! You seem to have a fun voice, and I love concerts too, though the only one I've really ever been to was Taking Back Sunday (which was awesome!) Looking forward to getting to know you a little more! (I write YA, btw).

Caryn Caldwell said...

Thanks for the recap. I didn't see the awards, so it's nice to know what I missed.

Nicole Zoltack said...

I watched some of it. I thought the Biebs react to Gaga was priceless. Unfortunately, it ran over and since we had recorded it, I missed the Hunger Games trailer! So upset! But then I watched it online. Way too short and should have shown more of the movie - but I kinda expected it to be like that.

Kelly H-Y said...

Totally missed it, so I appreciated your awesome recap! :-) #7 made cracked me up! :-)

Lindsay N. Currie said...

I saw part of it and thought Justin Bieber looked like a grandma LOL! Oh and I love Paul Rudd. Ever seen the Object of My Affetion? Adorable.

Sherrie Petersen said...

I didn't watch but omigosh, I had the same reaction when I saw Gaga on the news. Wonder how Ralph Macchio felt about that outfit? Ha!

I heart Dave Grohl, too. And Paul Rudd.

The box, on Katy Perry's head, admit that you want one. Because you're an out of the box kind of chick :)

Cynthia Chapman Willis said...

Thanks for this recap and the links! I (sadly) missed the VMAs because Hurricane Irene was visiting. Now I see that Gaga was impressive. Absolutely Ralph Macchio in the Outsiders! Too funny, Kelly!

Patricia T. said...

Hi Kelly. Just another campaigner stopping by to say hello. Looking forward to connecting with you in the group.

I'm with Jay-Z on the Chris Brown issue. I just can't.

Suzanne Casamento said...

I totally missed them. Thanks for the recap.

I agree with you about Chris Brown. I hold a grudge. When his music airs, I turn the dial.

Jenny Sulpizio said...

I saw them and I think I have finally reached the age where I'm too old to watch them or something. I hate that I just admitted that but as far as Gaga goes, the alter ego thing was lame. I dunno but I don't think I "get" the VMA's anymore. So sad...ho hum. :)

Debbie said...

Hi Kelly,

I'm out of touch with some of the music that's around now, and whatever I do hear just sucks. I totally agree with Dave Grohl!

Just thought I'd stop by to welcome another campaigner. I'm looking forward to reading more of your blog.

Ron Smith said...

Hi Kelly. I'm in the Platform Building Campaign, too, but not in your group.

I watched the award show just to see the preview of the Hunger Games.
