Today I am participating in a Possession Celebration Blog Hop hosted by Nichole Giles !
First of all, congratulations to the wonderful, generous, talented Elana Johnson on her book birthday for her debut young adult novel POSSESSION! And another congratulations to Elana, because the companion novel to POSSESSION recently sold! What a fabulous June you are having, my dear!
To celebrate, I am supposed to tell about a time I broke the rules. This is hard for me as I am a strict rule follower, law abider. I was a good kid. I'm a good adult. So, I will tell you about the first time I got a speeding ticket. (I've only had a few!)
I was in college and driving my friend Becky home from our summer jobs as Human Resources interns. The sun was shining, we were giggling as always on our way home with the radio blasting. I sang along loudly to the chorus of Queensryche's "Jet City Woman" as it played on THE BLAZE hair band radio station. And then I looked in the rear view mirror at the lights flashing behind me. My heart sank.
I looked nervously at Becky and pulled over to the side of the road. I knew I had been speeding. I wasn't paying attention.
As the officer approached my car, I hiked up my mini skirt to show some more leg as a last minute attempt to bat my eyelashes out of the ticket. But the tired looking, older gentleman asked for my license and registration anyway. As I waited nervously in the car, he returned with my very first speeding ticket. Crap!
I'm pretty sure I cried when I told my mom when I got home. I paid for the ticket myself with my summer job money. But I did the crime, so I paid the fine.
So that is my rule breaking story that my long, tan legs didn't get me out of. Nothing exciting, but definitely a moment I'll always remember!!
Were you a troublemaker?? :)

Today's Tune for Tuesday is "Breaking the Law" by Judas Priest. I loved when James sang with them on the Idol finale! Also random fact about me: I yell, "Judas Priest" like a curse word! (My grandma used to, too.)

Yay for releases day!!!! Congratulations to Elana and Shelley! :D
I was a ruler-breaker during Primary School; I think it had something to do with having nuns as teachers. Anyway, I decided I wanted to talk while changing for PE, and Sister What-ever-her-name was caught me. The usual punishment was a ruler over the knuckles. I refused to put my hand out and told her it was child abuse. The next thing I knew, I'm bring literally being dragged to the Headmistress, and when she appeared I kicked her a few times. Needless to say I was suspended for a week and had to be on my best behaviour for the rest of the year!
I went home and cried like you!
HAHAHA. I did that when I was 16 too. And then I cried. I did, however, only get a warning. (It was the first day I got my license...) Rules? Well, we went to nightclubs when I was underage...
Aw...he should have cut you a break. All that effort.... :)
And congrats to Shelley on her release day!!
Hahaha. That's great, I have heard hiking the skirt up can work. Maybe he needed to make his quota.
Sharon - I'm looking forward to reading both of them!!
Ellie - Now that's one bad day at school!
Samantha- Okay, I may have done that too...
Sheri - It was worth a try!
Monica - Or he didn't like teenagers. :)
How cool about all the releases today! My congrats to Elana and Shelley. And my congrats to you, Kelly, for your attempt to sway the law. (Darn those tired old police officers.)

A BIG congratulations to Elana! YEAH!
Nope, I wasn't a troublemaker. Only got called to principle's office once in my entire high school career and I've only two tickets (knock on wood) both for speeding. :)
Naughty.
Jet City Woman is about Seattle, where I'm from. One of the guys from Queensyrche lives up the street from my dad's house. He's ancient.
LOL. Oh, that's bad.
Congrats to Elana and Shelley! I have Possession. It's next on my list. YAY!
I never got into trouble. Believe that? Congrats on the releases. That's always exciting.
Hurray for Elana and Possession AND its companion!!!
Hurray for Shelley and A Good Knight's Rest! :-)
I'm so excited for Elena. She's a fabulous person. (=
I cheated on a spelling test in 3rd grade. I looked over my "arch-enemie's" shoulder.
Then, I promptly went home and told on myself. My mom took me back to the school and I had to tell my teacher.
So - even when I "break the law", I tend to throw myself in jail.
(perfect song choice for this post, btw!)
Congratulations to Elana. Can't wait to read ALL her books!
I never cause trouble! And I can't believe your skirt hiking didn't work.
I always hear about people who can talk their way out of tickets. . .the only one I ever got out of is when the father of one of my student's pulled me over (although trust me, I paid a little in shame)!
And why is everyone saying they never break the rules when I had to stop myself at 5?? :)

Congrats to Elana and Shelley! So exciting!
LOVED your story! I, too, was a good girl and rule-follower ... with a lead foot. ;-)
I'm so excited for Elana too. That's funny you're not a rule breaker. I'm not much of one either though in high school, I rebelled and seriously did. I won't even say all the things I did.
Mel- I should have unbuttoned my blouse too. (kidding!!!)
Bish- And now I want to know why you were called to the principal's office that one time!
Matthew - I've seen Queensryche in concert a few times. They are pretty good! Cool that a member lives down the street from your dad!
Bookrusher- It will be another to check off for your challenge!
Lee - I believe you!
Shannon - I'm so excited for them!
Jo - She is so giving!!
Donna - I probably would have told on myself too. I cannot keep things to myself.
Tina - I'm not sure whether to believe that or not... I will...
E&C- I'm sure I could list a few more - just not big ones!
Kelly - Now my family teases me because I dont speed enough!
Natalie - It's good fodder for the stories you'll write!
You hiked your skirt? *gasp* You naughty girl!
And hey, I was pretty much a rule-follower too. LAME.
You know it's funny how many people on this hop have written, I'm a rule follower. I even did myself. I guess I could have written about my first ticket (which was my husbands fault, BTW) but instead I wrote about grammar rules, pretty boring, but if you like boring... http://abookagirlajourney.blogspot.com/
You naughty girl! *sighs* I believe I have issues with speeding myself. I am not a bad girl, but I do have a thing with bending the rules I guess. And I totally admit it, too.
Thanks for the linkage!
Thanks kelly! Being in the same post at Elana AND Judas Priest is just...well...awesome!
Love ya!
Shelley
Check you out, using your womanly wiles! But isn't that first speeding ticket like a rite of passage? I mean, you can't really call yourself an adult if you've never even (been caught) breaking the speed limit, right?
LOL. I once got pulled over for speading (it was a 138 dollar ticket) so I decided to go to the justic department and contest the ticket. I dressed up real cute and went in there, batting big shining blue eyes and explained that there was 'no way' I was going as fast as they said I was since I was going uphill (?) and my radiator was overheated and I couldn't go over 55 if I wanted to... I guess I must have amused the guy because he came back with 'well, they got you on radar....but we'll just write this off as a warning this once and I suggest you get your speedometer checked as soon as possible'
So I guess that was a successful day for mini skirts everywhere.
Happy release day to Elana and Shelley!
I'm definitely in the rule-follower club as well, though I like to imagine what it would be like to be a little more rebellious! I just don't have it in me. ;)
Congratulations to Elana and Shelley! Book birthdays are so exciting, especially after all the hard work a book requires.
Loved your ticket story! I HATE being pulled over, but by some miracle, I've never been given a ticket. It's sort of my claim to fame and it's not because I don't, sometimes, break a few rules.
Congrats, Elana!! :)
Loved your story, Kelly. Too cute. :)
Of course you were listening to Queensryche when you got pulled over! LOL!
I loved when James sang with Judas Priest too. James was my favorite.
I was never a rule breaker - but my brothers were; they made up for me plus a dozen other rule followers ;)
Kitten, i want to bugger you.
I am such a rule follower. Except for stop signs. I've been ticketed twice for running them.
Guys don't get to use those anti-ticket tricks. I just play profoundly clueless, boarderline stupid.
Congrats to Elana and Shelley!
I wasn't a troublemaker, either, though I have had a few speeding tickets. It's such a horrible feeling to see those lights flashing in your rear view mirror!
I love that story! I never had the nerve to try to flirt my way out of a ticket.
*Ahem* not that I've gotten that many...
How did I miss that Shelley's book was out???
That must have been one worn out gentleman to give you the ticket!
I now have new favorite words to curse by ...and have you to credit for it. Grandma really did use that? Hahahahahahha!
Yeah, I was definitaley a trouble maker. Smoked a lot of weed and raised hell. Then I got married and had children. I'll enjoy the video. Great song!
Sorry showing a little leg didn't work. I didn't get my first speeding ticket until last year. I guess my luck finally ran out!
I was pretty good, but not exactly an angel when I was younger.
Yay for Shelly and Nicole. Congrats to both authors!
HA!! You did NOT (you little vixen)! :-) In the middle of reading her awesomeness NOW!
Hi Kelly, Nice blog! How to add the Glitter Effect Mouse Pointer to your Blog
Both books sound great. Congrats to Elana and Shelley!
LOL @ trying to get out of the ticket. It didn't work for me either and I was engaged to a cop!
Oh my goodness, kelly. Ha! You rebel, you.
Hi Kel! I gave you an award on my blog today, but Blogger is still messing with me and won't let me edit or add links. I hope you're doing well!
Rena
I enjoyed POSSESSION.
I can't believe the skirt hiking didn't work.
Have a great weekend.
Hi, Kelly. Just checking in on you. : )
well, I'd expect from someone who listens to Judas Priest to be a troublemaker and rulebreaker :PPPPP
Hi Kelly,
I wanted to give you the Stylish Blogger Award! Stop by my blog when you have a chance :)
